Radiant Heating is in

The tubing which will carry the hot water heated by the Tarm (high efficiency wood buring stove) has been laid. This will be the radiant heat in the concrete floor on the main level. Next step is to pour the cement....whenever the weather cooperates enough to do so! You can see that the plumbing has been roughed in as well. (This is the view facing EAST, towards the driveway).

Almost Ready for the Foundation

The gravel base in in place, and just about ready to start setup for the foundation. A lot of additional work was also required on the driveway as the wet winter caused the ground to be pretty wet, not to mention the discovery of an underground spring.

Here is a picture of the gravel base for the foundation.

Breaking Ground

At long last, we finally "broke ground" and the house building has begun! Indeway Excavating spent the day leveling the ground for the house site. We were quite surprised to find that the difference in level between the south east post and the north west post was about 4 feet. It looks like we will need a retaining wall on the North side, behind the house.

Check out the photos of the excavating in progress!

It's almost time....

Here we are, June 1 2008. Tomorrow morning we are scheduled to break ground and finally officially start the actual building of the house!

Here is a picture of how the location of the house looks before the excavating starts. (This is the view facing South, as the main entrance of the house will face south). If you look closely you can see the stakes on the SE and NE side of the house. Unfortunately we will need to remove the 2 big cedar trees you see, as they will interfere with the Solar panels.
